Many people all over the world suffer from drug addiction, including
celebrities. From time to time, stories about celebrities with
addictions make headlines. One of the most popular stars who has
battled drug addiction is Ozzy Osbourne.
Osbourne has battled his
addictions to drugs for many years. When he was
an adolescent, he started experimenting with drugs. He said that
he suffered from dyslexia and ADD (attention deficit disorder).
Those ailments caused him to feel weird and abnormal. He attributes
part of the reason for his drug abuse to self-medication. The
drugs made him feel better. Another part of the reason he abused
drugs is to have fun and enjoy his life.
At one point in his life,
when he was trying to give up alcohol, he asked himself, "How
will I enjoy my life?" As well, to an extent, drugs are a
part of the lifestyle of Rock N' Roll musicians. It goes without
saying that combining fame with a preexisting substance addiction
will only exacerbate the problem.
Hash (hashish), LSD (lysergic acid diethylamide), cocaine and
alcohol are some of the drugs that Osbourne has used. He has sought
help and has done many stints in rehab in order to rid himself
of his addiction.
Many people do multiply stints in rehab because it is very difficult
to rise above the addiction and stay there. Osbourne has spent
time in rehab in the Betty Ford Centre among others. On April
15, 2013 Ozzy Osbourne apologized on Facebook for drinking
and drugging for the past 18 months. He said, "I was in a
very dark place
However, I am happy to say that I am now
44 days sober."
Unfortunately, drug abuse not only affects the individual, but
it also affects the individual's loved ones. Many families do
not know how to handle addiction and they, too, feel out of control.
As well, some people do
not want to associate with people who do drugs.
Fortunately, Osbourne has a very supportive wife, Sharon, as well
as very supportive children (Aimee, Jack, Kelly, Elliot, Louis,
Jessica and Robert).
Therefore, with rehab and the support of his family, Ozzy Osbourne
is overcoming his drug addiction one day at a time. However, Osbourne
recently admitted to having a relapse. Nevertheless, he is still
working toward sobriety.
When all is said and done, addictions are difficult to battle
whether you are a celebrity or not. As a matter of fact, it can
be even more difficult if you are a star because illicit substances
become more accessible.
