Lindsay Lohan Drug Addiction
Lindsay Lohan has accomplished a great many things in her young
life, including starring in The Parent Trap at only 11-years-old.
The problem is that she might not remember much about that victory,
her performance, or a great many other things she has done throughout
her young and tumultuous life. Why? Lindsay has a long history
(yes, in her young life) of drug and alcohol addiction.
She has been front and center in the news for the past several
years when it comes to celebrities and their addictions. One of
the main reasons that the media seems to take such an interest
in her is because she is young and was seemingly on the upward
slope of a long and lustrous career. All that has come to a crashing
halt due to her behavior, her repeated denials, and her seemingly
best efforts to thwart any attempt at recovery and redemption.
Her most recent stint in jail due to her continued abuses have
led her to her third trip into rehabilitation row. Perhaps there
are only a few people who have much faith in Lindsay Lohan to
kick her alcohol and drug addiction, but there is a saying out
there that states, 'The third time's the charm.'
Where it all started
Lindsay Lohan's father Michael has been one of the most vocal
people in trying to get Lindsay the help she needs. It is difficult
for a loved one to stand by and watch someone wither away and
even throw their life away, all in the name of partying and trying
to have fun. Lindsay's early drug and alcohol use was in the form
of illegal drugs, such as cocaine and underage drinking. She would
be documented partying until the wee hours of the morning with
friends, only to disappear for days at a time.
Her behavior led to several DUI stops, including accidents, which
led to a court ordered rehab for the first time. At this point,
she denied any drug or alcohol abuse and would even Tweet about
friends whom she lost to drug overdoses and that it was wrong
and that shouldn't be the way anyone should go. She mentioned
on more than one occasion that she was tired of the three letters
'RIP' when it came to friends.
Denial is the addict's best friend
Of course, denial is commonly referred to as an addict's best
friend. Lindsay mastered the art of denial but what has baffled
people for years was that she would make these denials public
on the same day that pictures of her partying the night before
surfaced.
From one drug to the next
Lindsay completed one 45-day stretch in rehab at Promises Rehab
in Malibu. Perhaps rehab did work for Lindsay Lohan, at least
to some degree. For all accounts, she has kicked her illicit drug
addiction, but replaced it with an addiction to prescription medications,
a common current favorite among celebrities, it would seem.
The system may be part of the problem. In her latest stint in
court ordered rehab, after the ankle bracelet incident, Lindsay
Lohan did not complete her 90 day stay. Apparently the authorities
at the rehab center said that she did not need to stay the full
time.
An addiction is still an addiction and while her father and her
closest loved ones fight for her life, Lindsay continues to be
evasive, defiant, and in denial. If the system won't help her
and she won't help herself, then what will the next step be?
On September 24, 2010, the Los Angeles judge sent Lindsay Lohan
back to jail for 30 days for violating the terms of her last court
appearance. Perhaps this time, jail will have a positive impact
on Lohan dealing with her addiction.
